The Five Signs You Are in a Toxic Relationship With Your Makeup and How to Break Free.

Are you in a toxic relationship with your makeup? Does your makeup make you look beautiful all the while slowing poisoning you with harmful ingredients?

Here are the top five signs you need to pitch your current product.

  1. It contains a formaldehyde releasing substance: Formaldehyde is a very effective preservative; think frog dissection in high school biology. It is also a know carcinogen, but according to the FDA 1 in 5 cosmetics contain a substance that releases formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is not allowed to be put into cosmetics, so this round about way allows cosmetics companies to add a substance that slowly releases formaldehyde once it is added to water. Scary huh? What are the names of these additives:

  • Imidazolidinyl urea

  • Diazolidinyl urea

  • Quaternium-15

  • Bronopol (2bromo2nitropropane1,3-diol )

  • 5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane

  • Hydroxymethylglycinate

  • DMDM Hydantoin

  1. Mercury. Yep, the FDA and European Union still allow cosmetics companies to put a small amount of the preservative mercury into mascara and other eye related makeup.

  1. Parabens. Parabens are a group of artificially made preservatives that can effect estrogen in the body. These chemicals have been found in breast cancer tumors but we lack studies to prove they can cause breast cancer. What to look for on the label:

    ethylparaben (E214)

  2. Musks & Phthalates: These are both chemicals added to many different cosmetics products. They cause problems with the hormone systems in the body and can cause harm to the thyroid and reproductive organs. Birth defects and hormonal changes with baby boys have been noted as well. Phthalates often not listed in your makeup’s ingredients, but rather hidden under the vague term “fragrance”.

  3. Triclosan. This chemical is an antimicrobial used in a variety of cosmetics as well as liquid hand sanitizer. Triclosan is known to disrupt hormone systems. It has been linked with cancer & liver toxicity in animal studies and has been shown to have hormone like effects on breast cancer cells.

More and more American women are realizing their beloved makeup is full of chemical toxins that are harmful to them. And who wants to stay in a toxic relationship? Sad thing is….too often women use a product day after day having no idea their makeup could contain carcinogens or other additives that cause infertility among a slew of other health problems.

If you are looking for a healthy, new relationship (and trust me, you are) think about Younique makeup products. The following is an excerpt straight from the Younique company regarding their makeup line.

Every single one of our products are considered naturally-based and a majority of them are considered all-natural. “The National Ingredient Resource Center (NIRC) considers a product “all-natural,” if it contains at least 95% of ingredients that fits their criteria for natural ingredients. The other 5% may come from ingredients that do not meet their criteria for natural, but do not contain synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, or harmful fillers.”

Ladies now is the time to end the toxic relationship you have with your current cosmetics and jump into Younique. Don’t wait another second to join my lash bash kicking off this weekend.
