It was difficult leaving Dublin today with Paddy’s Day festivities in full swing. This was the scene upon arrival at Dublin Airport.
Well, I’ve got my first day in Venice,Italy under my belt…what an amazing city! We survived a Ryanair flight complete with clapping upon landing and Irish lads impersonating various American accents. Not to mention the gorgeous view of the Italian Alps from the sky.
We had a beautiful drive from the airport and enjoyed a scenic walk to Ca’Macana, an authentic mask making shop in Venice, Italy.
Venice is all about Mardi Gras style face masks for their famous Carnivale which takes place in February of every year. Ca’ Macana is one of several, local mask making shops in town. Masks are mache or leather and range from 13 euros to nearly 100! They have a lovely selection of painted, jeweled, and sparkly masks to suit any lady’s fancy. They also have animal masks, plague era beak masks and various other opera themed masks for males or females.
The store operators are beyond friendly and encourage selfies 😉
We finished the day with a sunset walk, Italian cuisine, a night vaporetto tour, and gelatto…yum! My fave part was the heavy pour of red wine at dinner!
Can’t wait for tomorrow!!!
I forgot to mention the fabulous Italian coffee and strangely delicious ketchup flavored chips. :0
